A Letter to my Mother Tongue

My dear Mother Tongue Tamilzh,

You are the first language that I learned, which is soft, gentle, and sweet.

You taught me to speak and write through my Amma and made me hear moral stories with proverbs.
You are the best beginning of my childhood memories.

Though I know how to speak and write other languages,
none sounds as good as you.
You are my favorite,
you are the best,
you are my pride,
you are my roots,
and you are my ancestry, as you are one of the oldest languages in the world.

When I sing in praise of the Almighty, you make me mighty enough to surrender at His feet.
You have given birth to esteemed poets, authors, saints, sages, kings and queens and you have millions of admirers all over the world, but you chose me to be your best friend.

You are carved on stones, rocks, and walls of the temples,  in the forms of literature, arts, and music, in children's comics and school books; you left no stone untouched.

A word of honor:
I shall keep you alive forever and strong.
I shall share knowledge about you near and far.
I shall speak only you until my last breath and never allow you to disappear so fast.
I shall emphasize the significance of our mother tongue.

With all love, great respect, and care,
Yours truly
Saradha
